Surface Mode (Infrared) Operation
1. Press the Measurement Trigger to turn on the device.
2. Point the device at the object you wish to measure and press and release the Measurement Trigger. The temperature of the object will be displayed on screen. To scan the temperature of an object, press and hold the Measurement Trigger while moving the thermometer over the object you wish to measure. The display will continuously change as it reads temperature variances of the object being measured. When the Measurement Trigger is released, the last temperature read will be displayed on screen. For accurate results be sure to consider emissivity and distance-to-spot ratio (explained later in the manual).
3. To see the minimum and maximum temperatures measured, press the UP button to change between MIN and MAX temperature.
4. To clear the MIN/MAX temperatures, press the DOWN button.
Note: The Escali DH8 is not recommended for use in measuring reflective surfaces as inaccurate results may occur. Inaccuracy may also occur when steam, dust, smoke, etc. is present and obscuring the path to the surface being measured.
Probe Mode Operation
1. Press the Measurement Trigger to turn on the device.
2. Press the SET button to switch from Surface Mode to Probe Mode
3. Plug the probe thermometer into the port on the left side of the device.
4. Insert the probe into the item that you wish to take the internal temperature of.
The internal temperature will display on the screen. For accurate results be sure
to insert the probe into the center of thickest part of the meat.
Note: There is no auto-off function when the thermometer is in Probe Mode. The unit must be switched to Surface Mode for the unit to turn off.
CAUTION! The stainless-steel probe and cord can get very hot. Always wear heat-resistant gloves when handling. Do not place the main unit in the oven or grill. Only the probe and cord are oven/grill safe.
Setting an Alert Temperature
In Probe Mode an alert temperature can be set to notify you when your desired temperature has been reached. When the alert temperature has been reached the screen will flash red and the alarm will sound. To set an alert temperature:
1. Press and hold the SET button. The temperature in the lower temperature display will begin flashing.
2. Press the UP button or DOWN button to adjust the temperature up or down. If the temperature needs to be adjusted a large amount press and hold the UP button or DOWN button to scroll.
3. Once you have reached the desired temperature press the SET button to confirm the temperature.
4. Make sure that shows in the lower left-hand corner of the display indicating that the alarm is on. If is not on screen, press the UP button to turn on the alarm.
